Bekim Retkoceri migrated to England in mid 1990’s. His education at the Academy of Arts in Prishtina, Kosovo, was abruptly discontinued when the conflict intensified. Years later, he graduated from Chelsea College of Art in London and earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Art at Kingston University, London.
His work is typically based on misconceptions, mythology and religion. Retkoceri remains inspired by the fragmented monuments and fallen statues of modern dictators. He questions their endurance and permanence and seeks to reconstruct the aftermath in his work. He has most recently exhibited in the “Appearance and Disappearance of London Art in the Marble Cave of Gadime” in Kosovo and in “Nine Billion Names of God” at the Gallery on the Corner, London. His works are frequently exhibited internationally.
